Estimating Future Shake by easyroof

Step #1Divide Divide the above roof plan into two parts (A) and (B). The coverage dimensions for Future Shake is 47" (3.9 ft.) wide by 12.75" (1.1 ft) high.

Step #2- In Part (A) the length of the fascia is 50 ft to determine how many shake panels will be needed horizontally, divide 3.9 ft. into 50 ft.= 12.8 or 13 shake panels. The rafter measurement is 18 ft. to determine the number of shake panels needed vertically to the ridge divide 18 ft. by 1.1 ft = 16.36 or 17 shake panels to the ridge. The number of panels needed to cover Part (A) would be 13 panels x 17 panels= 221 X 2 (because the rafter length is the same on both sides of the roof) =442 shake panels for part (A).

Step #3- In Part (B) the length of the fascia is 20 ft as explained in Part (A) divide 3.9 into 20ft = 5.13 panels or 6 panels. The rafter measurement is 12 ft. divide by 1.1ft. = 10.9 or 11 courses to the ridge. The total number of panels needed in Part (B) is 6 X 11 X 2 (rafter length the same on the other side)= 132 panels needed for Part (B).

Note: If the panels needed to cover the length of the fascia is less than half a panel you can round up to the nearest half, as the other half panel can be used on another course. The vertical rafter measurement should always be rounded up to the nearest full panel as the panel will be cut horizontally and bent to fit the ridge.

Step #4- to calculate waste multiply the linear ft. hips and valleys by .3. For example the linear ft. of hips is 44ft and the linear ft. of valleys is 44ft. To determine the waste multiply 88 ft. of hips and valleys by .3 = 26.4 or 27 panels of waste.

Conclusion: The total number of Future Shake panels needed for the roof diagram on page #1 will be Part (A) plus Part (B) plus Waste or 442 panels + 132 panels + 27 panels = 601 panels divided by 24 pcs. per square = 25sqs.

Trims and accessories:

Hip and Ridge Cap coverage is 14.5" each. Add the hip and ridge = 114 ft. X 12" = 1368" divide by 1.2"(14.5)= 96 pcs. add 10% = 105 pcs. of hip and ridge cap.

Valley = 44 ft. or 5 pcs. valley (accounting for overlaps).

Rake or Gable = 60 ft. or 7 pcs. of rake or gable (accounting for overlaps),

Starter = 150 ft. fascia or 16 pcs. of starter (accounting for overlaps).

Panel Clips= Four per panel (3 minimum) x 24 pcs/sq = 96 clips/sq. (72 min) x 24 sqs w/o waste = 2304 clips (1800 min).

Quick Formula:

The following formula can be used for quickly quoting the approximate number of squares. Again, using the roof example on page #1.

Step #1- Determine the actual square footage without waste. Part (A)= 1800 s/f. + Part (B)- 480 s/f. = 2280 s/f.

Step #2- Determine the linear ft. of hips and valleys = 88 ft.

Step #3- Add Step #1 and Step#2- 2280 s/f +88 ft. = 2368 s/f.

Step #4- Multiply the total by 1.06. or 2368 s/f X 1.06=2510.08s/f or 25.10 squares
